Nothing for us without us- empowering young women through writing!

Goodness, it's Friday! Where did the days go. We are nearly there- we have two  modules mapped out, content and methodology drafted, five eLearning courses outlined and today we are discussing the mentorship and internship components of the Academy. Phew.

Writing training materials needs strong organisational skills- meet our SRHR advocates and administrative champions, they have brought so much strength and structure to the process. Their dream for the Academy has helped push us all along. Although the Academy will include young men, the focus is still very much on young women who will be the majority of candidates on the course.

Tendai Precious Chimuka is a young lady keen on issues of young people’s welfare, human rights, Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and gender. Tendai is currently pursuing her Masters in Development Studies and is very passionate about using information and knowledge as the key drivers of development and social change. “Giving a young person information and knowledge empowers them and guarantees change for a better tomorrow.” Tendai loves learning from others and running around to get things done. Tendai is currently working with SAfAIDS Regional Programmes team as well as the Technical Services Unit whose key responsibility is Materials Development. Tendai will be part of the administrative structure for the SAfAIDS Leadership Academy.

Clarissa Regede has been involved in work on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights for the past five years as a SAfAIDS Rights Ambassador for young people. Clarissa was a Junior Parliament Senator for Goromonzi Constituency in 2010 and she is also an Alumni Member of the SAfAIDS Regional Young Women Leadership Programme class of 2013. Clarissa has gone further with her learning on SRHR to participate in the annual Aids and Rights Alliance for Southern Africa (ARASA) training due for completion in November 2014 which will see her even stronger in the area of rights based approaches in HIV and TB programming. Clarissa has recently completed her Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Administration in June 2014 and will be joining the SAfAIDS Academy team.

Our dream for the future
We want an Academy that develops young professionals and citizens that make informed decisions on their sexual and reproductive health and leadership. This will help build a new Africa that includes young people as role models too. It will be a place where all participants learn from each other and where we work in building each other’s strength to shine and become confident in their different spheres of interest.

Our Message!

Being part of the curriculum development for the Academy enables us to focus on the information gaps amongst young people because we are the young people. The dreams for the Academy are our dreams too.
